The anti corruption movement by Anna Hazare has exposed the vaccuum in the Indian political system. It has exposed a dangerous trend - the mainstream political parties are unable to give a clear roadmap to deal with the issues faced by the ordinary people.
The central government, of the Congress, did not have a proper strategy to deal with the movement. Tactical errors like arresting Anna Hazare and inablity to fathom the feelings of the people were the hallmark of the government`s response. The absence of Sonia Gandhi probably reflected on the response of the government.
The main opposition party BJP played a dilly dally role. While at one stage the party was not in full agreement with the Jan Lokpal bill the party president Mr. Gadkari comes with a statement saying that they are prepared to follow the leadership of Anna Hazare and give full support to him. Hello, isnt it the job of the main opposition party to raise issues of national interests and force the government to take action?
If the political system continues to behave like this, the very soon we will have many more like Anna Hazare taking to the streets and in the process undermine the parliamentary system that has been made for law making.
Hope sense prevails!
